Hiring Process
From Job Search to Job offer
We take great care to make sure we’re the perfect fit for each other. That’s why we’ve taken time to outline the process below so you know what to expect — from job search to job offer.
Beginning Your Search
You might have started exploring our site with your mind set on Marketing, but also discovered a sales job that lines up with your skill set. We have so many opportunities on our expansive campus, so be sure to keep your options open.
Apply
So you’ve found the job (or jobs) you’re interested in. Next step? Filling out your initial application. Once you do, one of our recruiters will review your application and reach out to you via phone, text or email. We commit to reaching out to you within 72 hours. If that time passes and we haven’t been able to connect, you can contact us at recruiting@uwm.com.
The Phone Interview
Guess who’s calling? We believe phone interviews are a great way to start to get to know you, which is why they are usually the first step in our interview process. Our recruiters will set up a call to get to know you — and your career aspirations — better and share everything UWM has to offer.
The Face-to-Face Interview
Ready to experience our campus and meet our amazing team in person? Once you've completed the phone interview, you may be asked to complete the employment application and background check authorization. Now you're ready for your on-site interview! While here, you'll also get a walking tour of our sizable campus!
The Offer
This is the exciting stage: The job offer! If you’re the right fit, a recruiter will contact you with a job offer once all your interviews are complete. If you accept, your start date will be set pending the successful completion of a background check and pre-employment drug screen*.
*In accordance with current Michigan law, candidates will not be tested for THC.
NOTE: Depending on the role you’re applying for, there may be additional interviews and/or assessments needed.

Hiring Process FAQs
Want more details about the hiring process? Read on for some of our most common candidate FAQs.
Where will my interview take place?
All face-to-face interviews are conducted at our Pontiac, Michigan, campus. Prior to your in-person interview, you’ll have a phone interview with a recruiter. Some positions will not require a phone interview and you’ll be invited directly to our campus.
What should I expect during the phone interview?
The phone interview is our chance to start to get to know you — from your education and skillset to your professional experience. It’s also your chance to ask questions and learn more about a career with UWM.
What should I expect during the face-to-face interview?
This is where we expand on the position you’re applying for and what’s expected of you. We’ll cover the basics of your team’s role in the loan process, as well as where your skills and experience fit in.
What should I expect on my first day?
The first day (actually, the first week) is filled with onboarding training that we call New Hire Experience. During this training, we fully immerse you in the mortgage experience, so you understand every step of the process — even the steps that aren’t directly related to your new role. You’ll also learn about our culture and the expectations of our team members.
Does UWM require a pre-employment drug test?
Yes. However, in accordance with current Michigan law, candidates will not be tested for THC.
